The FDA has recalled the weight-loss drug Belviq® and Belviq® XR from the U.S. market. The potential risk of cancer outweighs the benefits!
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has requested that the manufacturer of Belviq, Belviq XR (lorcaserin) voluntarily withdraw the weight-loss drug from the U.S. market because a safety clinical trial shows an increased occurrence of cancer. The drug manufacturer, Eisai Inc, has submitted a request to voluntarily withdraw the drug. Belviq® lawsuits are now being filed!
FDA Drug Safety Communication: Safety clinical trial shows a possible increased risk of cancer with weight-loss medicine Belviq, Belviq XR (lorcaserin)
FDA is taking this action because the risks of lorcaserin outweigh its benefits based on their completed review of results from a randomized clinical trial assessing safety. In January 2020, FDA announced they were reviewing clinical trial data and alerted the public about a possible risk of cancer associated with lorcaserin based on preliminary analysis of the data.
After the FDA approved Belviq® in 2012 they required the manufacturer to conduct a 5-year clinical trial to evaluate the risk of cardiovascular problems. The trial found that more patients taking the drug had a higher risk of developing the below types of cancer when compared to those taking a placebo.
- Pancreatic Cancer
- Colorectal Cancer
- Lung Cancer
- Breast Cancer
- Other Cancers
- and more…
With countless people now stricken with cancer after taking Belviq®, many are turning to the courts and filing a Belviq® lawsuit to hold Eisai Inc accountable for their reckless disregard for human health and willingness to put profit over people.
